Do you know the story behind the jewellery you wear? Who made it and where it came from?
2 Pairs Project's jewellery is handmade by Shyam Shona. The Shona caste in Nepal and India are renowned for their jewelsmith skills.
Through Shyam's role at 2 Pairs Project, he supports seven family members, including his wife, son, sister in law, younger brothers, and nephews.
Shona is learning new skills and "enjoys making tiny jewellery items", shared Shona. "I now sketch and do all my designs on the computer," said Shona.
Trade and business are important drivers to generate income. In Nepal, one in four people live below the poverty line - this is $0.70 per day.
By creating an ethical employment opportunity in Nepal, 2 Pairs Projects helps support Shyam and his family members.
Every jewellery item of ours has a story to share, and Shyam's story is one of many.
